Artist doing other things...

Very few artists have ever been able to balance life & art with complete ease.

The myth of the artist who swims all day in a sea of painting, drinking absinthe and huffing glue which results in large scale works of art that are sold before the paint dries, is consistently perpetuated by society.  Not simply American society but in every productive culture in which artists sell their work.

Artists are not one-dimensional creatures. We have many skills, and work hard to maintain our incessant hunger for paints, canvas, and other tools in which to perfect our creations. Artists are so diverse with multiple talents it is a shame to focus on one.

We, the South Carolina Artists group, see artists as more than simplistic one-dimensional creators and choose to share their talents with you!

What's Up?

Have you heard of APPLS? Created by the South Carolina Artists Group, Art in Public Places for Lexington SC also known as APPLS. Their mission to visually enrich, and strengthen the community by promoting the exhibition of professional art in work spaces and general public areas. Their exhibits benefit residents, business owners, students, artists, art lovers and all who are inspired by the arts.

In their ongoing effort to expand throughout Lexington County Coordinator Alexandra White met with the Lexington County Council Tuesday, April 12, 2011 (http://www.lex-co.com/Documents/4-12-11.pdf ).  Her exciting and beautiful presentation provided examples of current exhibits by the SCA/APPLS group in businesses around Lexington.  The unanimous vote by the council for art by the South Carolina Artists Group to exhibit in Lexington County Buildings. The State Newspaper covered the story and interviewed other members of the group (http://www.thestate.com/2011/04/20/1785409/art-coming-to-county-walls-halls.html).
